One of these unique treatments is Acupuncture.
Acupuncture has grown in popularity – and has been a staple of Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. For those not familiar with acupuncture, a common first reaction is fear. Most everyone knows that acupuncture is somehow associated with health and wellness, but mainly they know it involves needles. That is often the extent of their knowledge. Its origins, uses and benefits are less clear. Our Natural Health services staff is able to answer these questions for our clients, and expose them to experiences that perhaps they hadn’t before considered.
The foundation for acupuncture is an ancient Chinese philosophy that portrays individuals as an energy system. This energy is called Qi (pronounced Chi.) Energy travels throughout the body along paths described as meridians. When the energy is allowed to flow unobstructed, the result is overall health and well-being. However, if these pathways become blocked or agitated, it can lead to dis-ease and pain. Some have compared this system to an electrical grid that has short-circuited, causing blackouts. Until the shortage has been repaired, the system will continue to fail.
The process involves micro-thin needles being inserted at specific points along the meridians, at varying depths. This stimulates the blocked pathways, or meridians, restoring positive energy flow. The specific points where the needles are inserted are determined by the Acupuncturist, after a pre-consult with the client to determine the ailment or pain the client wants treatment for. While some may be concerned about the pain factor, it is generally not painful. You can experience some mild pain when the needle is first inserted and also an aching sensation when the needles reach the desired depth. Once in position, needles stay in place for twenty minutes.
Solcosta Wellness Natural Health Services use acupuncture to unify body and mind so as to create an inner balance. Unlike Western medicine, Chinese methods focus on the whole body, not just a specific ailment or illness. When balance is achieved, it’s thought that good health can be more easily maintained and some illnesses even prevented.
The documented benefits and proven effectiveness of acupuncture make a good argument for its use. Some common uses for acupuncture are relief from relenting back pain or migraines. It has also been helpful to women with fertility issues. It has been found to be helpful to those with asthma and osteoarthritis, and can even relieve nausea brought on by some chemotherapy treatments.
People seek out acupuncture for a variety of reasons. Some have an aversion to treatment with drugs and prefer a more natural method. Some have limited treatment options and are seeking alternatives. Some rely on acupuncture as a stress reliever, and others are simply curious. Whatever the reason, more and more people are giving it a try. Solcosta Wellness includes Acupuncture as an option in its Wellness Packages. And for our clients it seems that an age old tradition has found a new audience.
Acupuncture, as with all our Natural Health and Dental services, can be booked with the clinic or the practitioner during your stay, even if you are not a guest under our Wellness Package.

This is so exciting that Solcosta is offering acupuncture! There simply are not words that can properly extol the wonder and success of acupuncture treatments. I have known acupuncture to cure sinus infections, reverse the body’s addiction to alcohol, reduce the symptoms of hormonal changes, and provide amazing physical and mental relaxation and serenity.
